About Me

I’m a professional writer and editor with a primary focus on health care delivery, health care information technology, and health care transformation. For the last four years, I’ve been a freelance writer working with brands, agencies, and editorial publications on content ranging from blogs to bylines to white papers.

In addition to my written work, I’ve spoken at several health care industry events about how to improve the patient experience. I’ve even worn the shoe on the other foot and been interviewed by several leading health care news outlets.

I’ve traveled a long and winding road to build the healthcare content expertise that I have today. (Metaphorically, that is. I have lived in eastern Massachusetts my entire life. Yes, I’m a Red Sox fan. No, I don’t have a Boston accent. Besides, I wouldn’t tell you to park the car in Harvard yard. You should take the T.)

In late 2009, I began the role that started to stoke my passion for producing health care content that explains complex processes in familiar terms. I helped launch the TechTarget site called SearchHealthIT.com and built the site’s editorial calendar and content strategy along the way.

From there, I moved on to CIO.com. Along with managing the site’s 12+ freelance writers, I covered all aspects of health IT.  During this tenure, I wrote the article — How Healthcare Can Fix Patient Engagement — which inspired me to submit a speaking proposal for a HIMSS15 presentation and roundtable discussion. (I still remember scrambling to finish the proposal on a warm June day in a home office that lacked air conditioning.) The proposal was accepted, I led the session at HIMSS15 in Chicago, and the rest is history.

In the time since, I’ve held various content strategy roles at a news publication, an analyst firm, an integrated agency, and a conference company. (You can read more details on the Experience page of this site.) In addition, I have taken on freelance writing work that has expanded my portfolio beyond health care to cover topics such as fitness technology, enterprise IT, higher education, and business trends. That work helped lay the foundation for the full-time freelance work I’ve been doing since April 2020.

In my spare time, I enjoy running (I’m a 19-time marathon finisher), hiking in northern New England (I’m working my way toward the 67 4,000 footers), and perusing the History section at the local bookstore. Of course, that’s all contingent on not being occupied by chasing my energic toddler around the house or building something out of MagnaTiles so he can immediately destroy it.
